BROADCAST #78

TITLE & NUMBER OF THE BROADCAST:

INDIE-RE #78 BY CIVIL RADIO, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTENT:

Musically, the next Indiere Radio Show will be a very diverse show, just like Hungarian music. The Hungarian up-and-coming artists have not rested this summer, constantly bringing out new songs for the audience. We start the show with some more rock music from Magidom and Kisbetűs Hétköznapok, followed by some special world music from Chillum Trio. There will also be some Jazz, a preview of the Balatorium project and a taste of Eszter Takáts’ latest album. The show is hosted by Ákos Cserháti and Dániel Kemény.

TEXTS

In the last few minutes this was the band Magidom, and their latest song called “Utolsó utáni –  After Last”. The guys have been working on the new song over the summer, it seems, so they can surprise us with it by the end of the summer. If you’re curious about the band’s latest song, check back to our last show on Indiere.eu! And of course it’s not only Magidom who have been active in the last months, we’re going to show you another band who have been recording an album instead of resting.

This was the band “Kisbetűs ünnepnapok” – «Small letters holidays» and their song “Sárgát látsz” – «You see yellow». In 2018 they were only 9th graders when they started making music, and in 2021 they were joined by a new drummer who is only 15 years old. That year they started playing outside their own school, and since then they have released an album of their own and have a growing online audience in Hungary. So here’s another song from this new generation band called «Surranó»

Coming up next, here on the Hungarian edition of the Indiere Radio Show, another really young artist. He is Mehringer, 21 years old, who has just released his new single “Volt ami volt” – » Was what was». He is constantly touring the country with his band. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago they were injured in a car accident and lost all their band equipment. However, the Hungarian music scene is very supportive of them, they have started several fundraisers and continue to help the band in every way they can. We wish the guys a speedy recovery and hope to see them again soon at sold-out concerts.

We’re going to stop the show for a moment, because there’s a recent release coming up, and the frontman of Hiperkarma talks to us a bit about the band, and also about the recent music.

Hiperkarma was formed in August 2000, at the Sziget Festival. The name of the band was originally the title of a song, but finally became the name of the whole project. The idea for the name came from the fact that for some reason, in the 2000s, everyone used the word «hyper» a lot. I had a mix tape and on it was Instant Karma by John Lennon, Karmapolice by Radiohead, and Karma Coma by Massive Attack – the name of the band was actually a combination of all of those. A lot has happened since then and the band now has around 100 songs. And of course the ideas keep coming, we have dozens of unreleased songs at the moment. Sometimes I think that I could do with a bit of creative crisis, so that I can watch a film in peace and not jump up every minute to write lyrics.

After that, Robert Bérczesi also talked about the upcoming, latest song:

The song was a completely spontaneous idea at a house party. Péter Sziámi Müller and Péter Kirschner were also present, and together we wrote the song on the spot, which was released shortly after that.

So here’s this song, Hiperkarma – Úgy hallgatnálak,  I want to listen to you.

A performer who was previously featured on the last edition of the Indiere Radio Show will be coming back. Luckily, Saya Noé is not only active in streaming on her Twitch channel, but she is also constantly developing her music career, for example, she has just released her latest song «All over again». The following track is especially interesting to listen to as Saya Noé does practically everything herself: After a long search for a musical path, she has become a true DIY artist, not only writing the melodies and lyrics, but also producing and recording the songs herself.

Next up is the band «The Anahit», who have released a more electronic sound than ever before. They are best known in Hungary for taking on various songwriting challenges on TikTok and releasing super songs every week. Now here’s a more special song. The band revealed in an interview that they’ve been working on it for months. Featuring elements of dubstep and drum&bass, the song «akkoris» (You’ll be back) reflects in three languages, Hungarian, English and Spanish, on those situations in life when we think that whatever happens to us, it’s our fault. This is the song that is coming up next.

Here’s a very special band who have been experimenting with special, exotic sounds since 2002. They are the Chillum Trio, who have released a new album called Random Rituals. The album is released by Budabeats, a Hungarian independent record label with a wide musical spectrum from jazz to contemporary electronic music. Next up from Chillum Trio is Hypnotic Lychees, a track that the members have categorised as jazz house, with a unique Afro guitar groove at the heart of the track.

We continue with a track from a very interesting album, here on the Hungarian edition of the Indiere Radio Show.Twelve musicians and bands have joined forces and released an album that draws attention to the environmental values of Lake Balaton. Just a quick geography lesson: Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe, surrounded by beautiful volcanic mountain ranges, and a very popular tourist destination in Hungary. Now back to the musicians: they consider the protection of Lake Balaton very important, so they made the album by hiking around Lake Balaton and recording little sounds, which they later wrote into the music. We are now going to play the song «ASOFO» by the band «Jazzbois» in the next few minutes.

Bence Kocsis is a key member of the underground music scene in Budapest, and since 2019 he has been showing what he thinks good Hungarian music is with his OIEE project. The whole new album sounds very good, especially when you consider that Bence Kocsis does practically everything himself: when needed, he not only writes songs, plays instruments and sings, but also directs videos and builds visual worlds. Now we present one track from the album in the follow-up, the title track, Two Sides, performed by Bence Kocsis with his two musician friends Sena and O’SULLIVAN.

Another special, freshly released album here on the Hungarian edition of the Indiere Radio Show. Budapest Bár was originally founded by Róbert Farkas to modernise the café gypsy music scene. In 2007, he gathered some of the most important figures of Hungarian rock music around the band. The group, which originally came together for a single album, ended up staying together and has been performing in theatres, festivals and concert stages with unbroken success ever since. They cover evergreen classical songs, as they do on their latest album, which, in keeping with tradition, is heavily influenced by gypsy music and jazz. First up is the song “Mesél az erdő” – «The Forest Tells A Tale» which was first released in 1984. This is followed by “Mikor elindul a vonat” – «When the Train Starts», from 1977, but of course reworked.

Eszter Takáts made her last record six years ago, and since then we have heard relatively little about her. But now she’s back, and as it turns out, she’s been working on her new album for years, which is absolutely jazz music, but also features acoustic folk, indie-pop, chanson, blues, world music and reggae elements. Towards the end of the show, we will play two songs from this album. First comes “Hibátlan” – «Flawless», followed by “Érdemes dobbanás” – «Worthy Drumbeat»  as the last song of the show.

FEATURED SONG #78

TITLE:

INDR FEATURED SONG #78: Blansch – Szobám

TEXT FROM THE FEATURED SONG (SAME AS THE JINGLE TEXT):

Coming up next is the featured song from Hungary. The track is called “Szobám” – “My Room” by Blansch.

TEXT:

Blansch started making music seriously during the coronavirus pandemic, but her first album was released only a few months ago, on the day of her graduation. The album is very diverse in genre and has deep messages in its lyrics. It deals with growing up, love, fears, frustration and of course the experience of freedom or the search for it. Blansch’s songs clearly stand out from the Hungarian up-and-coming scene, so welcome her on the Indiere Radio Show!
